this girl in my class says she can not participate in any of our microbiology labs because her brother is going through chemotherapy- IS THIS TRUE or is she just being lazy-

microbiology

Typical microbes in lab experiments are not pathogenic to anybody. They are modified in a way that takes away the mechanism they have that makes you sick.
She could take reasonable precautions (eg wear a lab coat, wear gloves, and wash her hands) and by the time she was near her brother there would be no trace of the lab organsims on her. The germs she comes in contact with everyday are much more dangerous!!

She is just being lazy. Her brother is the one going through chemotherapy, not her. Chemotherapy destroys cells in ur body, including the ones (white blood cells) that help u fight infection. A person undergoing chemotherapy should not go out in public because of risk of getting sick, however the people around him, such as the girl in ur class r not affected. Sure she might be around her brother, but her being an outsider coming in will raise the risks of him contracting another illness is just as likely as her participating in a microbiology experiment. So tell her to stop being lazy & DO WORK

She is being lame. Tell her to wash her hands. For crying out loud. It is not like you're using human pathogens in your microbiology labs.

I believe she is just being lazy.my mom went through chemotherapy and there was no restriction on what I could do, only what she could do.

Yes its true! Her brother will die if she participates in labs! ;)

It could be true. Organisms that are not pathogenic in normal people could still infect someone who is immunocompromised.
