Any job besides a teacher.
Putting your lifes energy into projects for investors only to have your funding pulled just when you prove your project is profitable seems standard fare whether in industry or education.Screw the pharmacologists.Interferometry.Battle the intelligent bacteria with pulsed phase conjugate electromagnetic wave.Make them critters get up and dance the way you want and thank you for it.Get on top or suck a thumb.
Mostly I would say try for graduate school then get a Phd. Jobs r then u become a scientist and have ur own lab, or work for some company, or if u do not want to go to graduate school, just try joining some lab or hospital and u can become a research assistant by working with a scientist.
There r tons!
• Wine & beer industries
• Looking into new drug targets, such as genes & cell receptors, which could include genes & receptors in the host (like humans) or pathogen
• Developing new drugs
• Identifying disease-causing microbes
• Studying specific disease processes: immune response, hormonal disturbances like diabetes, neurotransmitters & their relationship to psychiatric problems
• Genetic factors influencing obesity, depression, addiction, sexuality or just about anything
• Forensics
• Developing & manufacturing biofuels
• Working as a research assistant at a university, medical school or hospital, government agency like the CDC or in private industry
• Genetically engineering crops and/or studying genes that influence desirable traits in food & other crops, like increasing vitamin C production in oranges or engineering disease-resistant trees
• Whole genome sequencing of just about any species
• Developing cloning & stem cell techniques & applications.
• Being as science writer or reporter
• Working in for chemical or pharmaceutical companies as a sales rep
And of course teaching could mean getting ur Ph.D. & teaching at a university while doing ur own research & working on new projects with graduate students. There r tons more.
I saw a documentary on the up and coming alternative fuels fields. They profiled one company in particular that I found interesting. They were growing Algae for fuel. They had a process but the end result was almost like a Soilent Green thing. [Not people] It sounded viable to me and I wondered why I had not heard of it before. I can not remember the name of the company but maybe you should try to get in on the front of this new push? Alternative fuel stuff.
Careers in Microbiology
A bachelor is degree in microbiology trains students for a wide variety of careers. Some students, of course, continue on to medical or graduate school. Others obtain jobs immediately after graduation as laboratory technicians in industry or academia. Still others pursue careers in technical writing, sales, product development for medical companies, forensic science, or teaching.
We have links to Web sites that will educate u about the positions u may apply for when u get ur bachelor is degree. The MCB Advising Program is the main career source for undergraduate students pursuing their bachelors' degrees in molecular & cellular biology.
The Job Placement Office at the University of Illinois Biotechnology Center is geared toward graduate students, but they also work with undergraduates who have research experience (outside of lab classes). Undergrads r also welcome at the annual January Job & Information Fair, at which many interview for internships. They also collaborate with the Chemical Sciences Placement Director & sponsors workshops that r open to any student in the sciences.
I would say maybe you should try to be a microbiologist or a maybe a molecular and cell biologist, but the opportunities are pretty tiny.
You could go into research and work in a lab. Or you could go to a really cool grad school.
